Ok so all in all they really weren’t that rusty, but since they will be coming inside I wanted to make sure I wouldn’t be getting any rust on the carpet. I went to Home Depot and got some Rustoleum spray paint. They have a kind called “Hammer Finish” which looked very similar to the finish that was already on the weights.

My original idea was to just spot spray the areas of rust, but I quickly realized that would be impossible with the nozzle that was on the can. So I sprayed everything except the grip area since the grips weren’t really rusty and I didn’t want to do anything to adversely effect being able to grip the weights.

If I had to do it over again (who knows I might just end up doing it again sometime) I would give a light sanding to the area I was painting. Of course I thought I was just going to do some spot touch ups otherwise I would of sanded. I am sure their are some drips, but oh well they are just dumbbells. I am not sure if I will give them a second coat, but right now I am thinking I won’t. If I need to I can do some touch ups to any places I missed or any bits that flake off later on.

Graffiti artists everywhere can sleep comfortably tonight I am officially bad with a spray can.
