Day 050: Officially back on track…

Feb 19 2008

Ok I give up I am just going to write these posts in the morning or at lunch and they will be about the previous day. So I skipped day 49 which was yesterday, but I am going to write about it today day 50… hopefully it’s not too confusing… I would hate to even confuse myself.

Yesterday I walked the stairs and I lifted weights. I have made a change to the way I am lifting. Instead of doing 3 sets of 5-6 reps of the heaviest weight I can handle I am doing 4-5 sets of 12 reps of a lighter weight. The hope is this will give me some muscle, but also endurance. To me it’s not so important to be big or shredded, but to have good functional muscles I can use while hiking, biking, or kayaking.

My diet was spot on. They only thing I could on improved upon was rest. I need to get to bed earlier.

Today I woke up, got on the scale and I was at 327.6. I know it has said I have been at 327.6 for a while now, but for the past few weeks the scale has been showing higher numbers. I just haven’t done an official weigh-in in a while. So I am officially back on track.

i had dinner with a good friend sunday night who is also doing ironman oceanside in san diego next month. we were talking about training & she said the one principle that all the pros swear by is consistency in your workouts. it should never be about taking time off & then “hitting it hard.” if you want to succeed, stay consistent!

Yeah the lay off was unintentional. I know consistency is the key, but obviously my tendency is to be lazy so it’s also a bit of behavior modification also.

My goal for the next six weeks is to work out 6 days a week. Which means at the minimum stairs during the weekdays and something at night.. either walking, weights, or yoga. On the weekend it means at least walking, but better yet kayaking or hiking.
