Day 037: No one said it was going to be easy…

Feb 06 2008

So I do great when everything goes as planned, but as soon as I hit a bump in the road I go off the rails. It’s a very frustrating feeling. I have gone off the rails… and now I need to get back on, but I also need to figure out a way to deal with non optimal situations. At the moment when the shit hits the fan I go running back to what I know which is a not healthy diet.

Anyway life should be getting back to normal for a while. I will keep you updated.

Day 35: Feeling unmotivated…

Feb 04 2008

I do great when I have everything planned out, but when I stumble I fall. I really need to come up with a new approach and dig deep to find that little extra something.

Sorry I went MIA over the weekend. Never fear I am back.

Day 031: A Little Bad and a Little Good…

Jan 31 2008

So today on my way to work I stopped for bagels and cream cheese. Not for myself, but for my co-workers who have been busting their butts on a project that launched tomorrow. I felt a little guilty for not being able to help. I didn’t intend on having any, but I ended up eating 1 1/2 bagels. Oh and I also had a muffin my co-worker, Eryn, made. They were very good. Oh and I had a couple of cookies. Ok so maybe I was a lot bad today.

Even though I worked late I did 45 mins on the treadmill. That was my good bit for the day. I also had a light dinner to offset my snacking.

Tomorrow night all bets are off. Ben and I are going to see Flogging Molly at Stubb’s. So I doubt I will be posting tomorrow and I am calling tomorrow my cheat day. I plan eating dinner out and having a few beers at the show. I am really excited Flogging Molly is my favorite band and I have waited a long time to see them live.

Day 030: Gaining momentum…

Jan 30 2008

Once again I hit the fitness center for 30+ mins of cardio. While I don’t feel like I am doing much I think it will help in the long run. Slow and steady wins the race.

Hopefully I will be able to gain some momentum heading in to Febuary. I would love to be at 325-327 on Friday. It would put me close to my goal of losing 6-8 pounds a month despite my little set back.

Nicole’s Mom is in town so when I got home from work we had a nice dinner of chicken, green beans, and sweet potatoes. It was very good. Nicole did a great job.

I still need to drink more water. If it’s not one thing it’s another.

Day 029: Dirty Jobs…

Jan 29 2008

Well I am happy to say getting a decent amount of rest worked out pretty good today. I was very focused at work and I even managed to hit the fitness center. I did 30 mins on the treadmill while watching Dirty Jobs. I dunno why but I love that show and I really only watch it when I catch it on.

I had a nice big dinner… whole wheat pasta with sauce and a sprinkle of a cheese. I also had a couple of slices of Hemp Bread with a little butter on them. I probably should of poured myself a little olive oil, but oh well. As you can see I am a firm believer in adding a little something to make the good stuff go down.

Nicole’s mom is coming tomorrow so I need to run a few more things down to the garage.

Day 028: I hate Mondays…

Jan 28 2008

…really do I need to say more? Well my body is very sore from the moving of tubs down to the garage and I am feeling very tired. I skipped my workout tonight, but I am hoping I will be able to hit the gym tomorrow and do some cardio.

Day 027: Up and Down…

Jan 27 2008

.. the stairs that is. With Kearney’s help I moved about 20-25 tubs of stuff from our apartment to our garage. When Nicole and I moved down we had the movers put everything that didn’t immediately have a home on the 2nd bedroom. Nicole’s mom is coming down to visit this week so it was good motivation to finally get that room cleaned out. So Nicole transfered everything from boxes to plastic tubs to keep bugs and rodents out. It was a good workout I am tired and sore.

I also did the grocery shopping today so I have plenty of food for the week. I made lunch for 3 days this week and the other 2 days I plan on taking pasta which I will make the night before. I also made some Texas Caviar.. it’s for Super Bowl Sunday, but the stuff gets better if you give it a chance to sit for 2-3 days. So whipped up a batch tonight and it should be perfect for Sunday.

Day 026: Planning…

Jan 26 2008

So it’s been 4 weeks and I am not seeing the results I was hoping for. I happy I’ve lost some weight, but my goal was to lose 1.5-2 pounds a week and I am not meeting that goal. I have yet to get on a good workout schedule and I am not getting enough sleep.

So it’s time to revamp things. I am going to add 2-3 days of cardio a week along with getting on track with resistance training 3 days a week. Like I mentioned yesterday I have given up trying to be a morning person and I am going back to getting up at 7am. My goal is to get 7-8 hours of sleep a night. I will get back to drinking a lot of water and cutting down on my caffeine intake. In my previous post I outlined the amount of calories I need to eat a day. I will keep a food log, like I originally planned, of everything I eat during the day.

Anyway thats the plan…. February is going to be a better month.

How much should I be eating…

Jan 26 2008

It’s pretty easy to tell someone who wants to lose weight that they need to eat less, but how much less? More importantly how much should I be eating? If you just start cutting calories you are going to be hungry a lot and more than likely you’ll give up. About a year ago I lost 50 pounds and I was never hungry because I wasn’t overly restricting my calorie intake. So how do I figure out how many calories I should be eating?

The best way, in my opinion, to estimate how many calories I should be eating is by calculating my Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). BMR is how many calories you would need if you were completely at rest all day. There are several formulas for figuring BMR. The one I use is called the Harris-Benedict Formula.
